Zopa Gets $12.9 Million And New CEO

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Online person-to-person lending site Zopa said it received $12.9 million in series C venture funding and hired Douglas Dolton as its global CEO.  Dolton was previously CEO of Chela Education Financing.

The company operates an online marketplace that allows users to lend and receive money on a direct person-to-person basis.  It intends to use the proceeds to expand into the U.S. from its existing UK base.

Investors in the round included Bessemer Venture Partners, Benchmark Capital and Wellington Partners.
